What is a Doula and What does a Doula do?
“A guardian of yours, a supportive sister.”
The word “Doula” originates from Ancient Greek, meaning “servant woman” or “helping woman.” A Doula is now referred to as a pregnancy and birth coach, resembling the role of the “sisters” who traditionally supported women during childbirth. A Doula is an experienced and knowledgeable woman who discusses your birth preferences during pregnancy. Beyond practical and emotional support during pregnancy and birth, a Doula offers much more. Additionally, I am a postpartum Doula who can provide therapeutic massages at your home. If you don’t have a birth partner, a Doula can offer support as needed. Let’s explore your deepest desires together. And make this a lifetime experience to your needs.
If you seek something different from the described package, we can tailor our services to your needs. My goal is to provide you with a positive experience and offer personalized support. I sometimes work with a backup Doula to ensure there is always someone available during the birth. Many options are open for discussion as long as we look for a solution to your and partner needs.
A doula is for the whole family.

Why a Doula for Your Birth?
What does a doula do exactly?
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to pregnant individuals before, during, and after the birth of your child. They offer continuous guidance, comfort, information, and advice throughout the entire birthing process.
Why should I hire a doula?
Studies have shown that the presence of a doula during childbirth can result in shorter labor, reduced need for medical interventions, higher satisfaction for the mother, and an overall more positive birth life experience.
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife provides medical care and monitors the health of the mother and baby during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. A doula primarily offers emotional and physical support, assists with breathing techniques, comfort measures, and the creation of a calm, supportive birthing environment. Both emotionally and physically, and also for the birth partner.
What are the benefits of postnatal doula support?
Postnatal doulas provide assistance and guidance to new parents after the birth of the baby. They help with household tasks, offer breastfeeding advice, emotional support, and can be a valuable source of information and reassurance during the transition to parenthood. Sacred Mother also offers massages in the postpartum period, rituals, and ceremonies can also be included.
How does the process of hiring a doula work?
The process usually begins with an introductory conversation, where you have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss how the doula can support you. An intake to have a clearer understanding of the desires. If you decide to proceed, contracts and payments will be discussed, and the doula will be available for questions and consultations before, during, and after the birth.
What is your specific approach as a doula?
As a doula at Sacred Mother, I believe in a holistic approach, paying attention to both the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy and childbirth. I provide personalized support, tailored to your individual needs and desires during this unique and beautiful process. I hope these questions and answers give you an idea of what a Doula can mean, and additional questions can be asked during the introduction.
